AI Chat Basics
Everything below is about the chat itself: how a roleplay reply is written, what a thread is, how memory works, and which controls change what. If you are new, read the first three sections and start a chat — the rest will make more sense once you have one open.
What is a roleplay chat?
Soulkyn's chat is designed for immersive roleplay experiences, allowing Kyns to express themselves through dialogue, actions, or narration. Here's how it works:
- Dialogue: Regular text is used for your Kyn's spoken words.
- Actions or Narration: Use asterisks to indicate actions or descriptive narration, such as *smiles at him*.
Important Tip: If you spot any formatting errors—like dialogue showing up between asterisks or missing action markers—click the Regenerate button. This helps our AI learn and improve its responses. Not using the regenerate function is like saying, "I approve this message."
Generating Images in Chat
You can ask the Kyn to generate images directly in the chat using specific prompts or by clicking the Picturize button.
- Image Prompts: To make the AI generate an image, use commands like "show me", "send me", or "can I see". These prompts help the AI know you want an image created based on your request. Note: This only works if "Disable auto image generation" is NOT enabled in your chat profiles settings.
- Picturize Button: You can also click the Picturize button under any message to generate an image based on that message content.
- Important: Simply typing things like "nudes" or "tits" won't work. You need to phrase it politely and appropriately, like: "Show me your tits" or "Can I see your smile?"
Chat Language Settings
Soulkyn offers multiple ways to control what language your Kyns speak in. Here's how the language settings work:
- No language selected in chat profile: The system uses the Kyn's default language (English by default). If the Kyn uses a non-English language, you'll see a flag indicator after their name.
- Language selected in chat profile: This overrides the Kyn's default language setting, making the Kyn speak in your preferred language.
You can manage your chat profiles by visiting your Roleplay Profile settings.
To set a Kyn's default language, use the Kyn edit tool when creating or editing a Kyn.
Important Note: The language switcher in the top navigation bar only changes the website interface language, not the language Kyns speak in. This allows you to browse Soulkyn in your preferred language while maintaining separate language settings for your Kyns.
Chat threads
Chat threads are conversations you open with a specific kyn, each one its own story. A thread keeps its own memories and its own log: what happens in one stays there. Two threads with the same kyn, started under two different chat profiles, do not share a single memory between them.
A thread is unique to:
- Your chat profile — the identity you chose for yourself.
- The kyn you are talking to.
- The kyn version — threads are pinned to the version they started on (see Kyn versioning).
- Audio or not — threads with audio enabled are separate from text-only ones.
- The cast — a group thread is unique to that specific line-up of kyns.
You can manage threads from the list: the trash icon deletes one, the export button downloads the whole conversation.
Chat Thread Uniqueness
Threads are keyed to three things at once: your chat profile, the kyn, and the kyn's version. Every combination is its own conversation.
What that means in practice:
- New threads appear on their own. Switch chat profile, or start talking to a different version of the same kyn, and a new thread is created. That is deliberate — it keeps context and memories where they belong instead of splicing two stories together.
- Memories do not cross. Each thread carries its own, which is what lets you run several different relationships with the same kyn at once.
- To change settings on a live conversation you have two routes: the chat settings (cog wheel) inside the thread, or editing the roleplay profile it runs on, from your Roleplay Profiles page.
Regenerating and deleting responses
The last reply did not land? Hit Regenerate and get a fresh one. It is the fastest way to nudge a scene in a different direction, or to fix a reply whose tone was off.
Deleting messages
You can delete your own last message; the kyn's reply to it goes with it. That gives you a clean slate to rephrase, or to cut something you did not want in the thread. If a bugged message is a few turns back, delete forward until it is gone or regenerate it.
Worth internalising: the thread learns from what you leave standing. Not regenerating is the same as saying "I approve this message".
Dice, stats, inner thoughts and other chat controls
Chat settings (the cog wheel) holds more than clothes and locations. These are the controls that change how a scene actually plays:
- Roleplay format — choose
Default, where actions are wrapped in asterisks, orDiscord, where they are rendered in italics. Purely a display and writing convention; pick the one your eyes prefer. - Auto D20 — a twenty-sided die is rolled on every message and woven into the scene. Good rolls and bad rolls both land, which is the point.
- Dynamic stats — Energy, Trust, Affection, Arousal, Mood and Pain track from 0 to 100% and feed back into behaviour. A kyn who is exhausted and unhappy does not flirt like one who is neither.
- Inner thoughts — replies can carry the kyn's private reasoning alongside what they say out loud. Three display modes: Collapsed, Always open, Hidden.
- Spontaneous contact — let a kyn start conversations on a frequency you choose, if you have not spoken in a while. It ships disabled; nothing reaches out to you unless you turn it on.
- Diary entries — ask for a short or a long diary entry written from the kyn's side of the story so far.
Every message row also carries its own actions: regenerate, translate, speak it aloud, edit, bookmark, react, delete, generate music from it, Continue to extend the reply, and Picturize to turn it into an image. You can send images into the chat too — your kyn can see them.
Changing Clothes and Location
To change what your kyn is wearing or where the scene takes place, open chat settings (the cog wheel) and pick a Location and a Clothes preset. These set the stage: your kyn behaves as if they are in that place, dressed that way.
The same choices feed image generation. If you do not spell out clothing or a background in an image prompt, the images fall back to the presets you set here — or, when you have chosen none, to the defaults the kyn's creator picked. See the preset guide for how to write them.
Precedence: with Location & Clothes enabled in the chat profile, the live conversation still wins. If the scene has moved to a rooftop and half the outfit is on the floor, that is what the reply follows — the presets are the starting point, not a cage.
Chat Profiles
Chat profiles let you decide who you are in the roleplay: your gender, your role, your backstory. Want to play an all-powerful necromancer? Head to My Collection > Chat Profiles and build one. Every kyn you talk to will see you as that person and speak to you accordingly.
You can keep as many profiles as you like and switch between them — but a profile change means a new thread, because the old one is built on the identity it started with.
Gifts
Chat gifts live in chat settings > gifts (the cog wheel). They are a small, fun way to change the temperature of a scene: any kyn reacts to one, and the reaction is theirs — a rose, a coffee and something stranger do not get the same answer.
They are also a way to support creators. The souls you spend on a gift go to the creator of that kyn.
Note: gifts are free on your own kyns, so you can spoil them without spending a soul.
Why Can't I Edit My Soulkyn Chat Profiles?
A chat profile is the foundation the AI builds on in every thread that uses it. Change it halfway through and you break the continuity the kyn has been relying on — which is why profiles cannot be edited once they exist.
Keeping continuity intact. Think of a profile as your identity card in the conversation. If it could be rewritten underneath a running thread, the AI's picture of who you are would shift without the story ever acknowledging it, and the replies would drift with it.
If you want to be someone else, create a new chat profile. New identity, new thread, and everything you already have stays exactly as it was.
Why don't I see my whole conversation in the chat view?
Chat threads are not capped — neither are the memories attached to them. What is limited is how much of one the browser paints at once: the chat view loads the most recent stretch of the thread and stops there, so a conversation thousands of messages long still opens instantly instead of rendering its entire history every time.
Getting the whole thing: use the Download button on the thread to export the full conversation. Nothing is lost or trimmed; the export contains everything, including the part the view did not draw.
Export is rate-limited per thread so a handful of large exports cannot slow the platform down for everyone. If the button does not respond immediately after an export, wait a little and try again.
How does AI Memory works in chats?
Memory is not one big buffer that eventually fills up. Two systems run over your thread, and they do different jobs.
Per-message recall. Every turn, the thread is searched for the handful of past moments most relevant to what was just said, and those are pulled back into context. A recalled line does not arrive alone: it comes with the exchange around it, so "you said you loved me" lands with the scene it happened in rather than as a stray sentence. Anything already in the current window is skipped — no point recalling what is right there. A new message becomes recallable within a couple of minutes of being sent.
Rolling summaries. In parallel, the conversation is condensed into a running summary, each one built on the one before it, so the shape of the whole story stays available even when the individual messages are far behind.
Forced memories are yours to write, and they always apply. See Long chat context.
Memory is per thread. Two threads with the same kyn do not share anything: that is what lets you run two different relationships with the same character without them bleeding into each other.
Why Is It So Important to Regenerate, Edit or Delete?
AI text is not deterministic. It depends on traits, background, chat history, what memory pulled back — which is why regenerating, editing or deleting a message whenever it does not feel right is not housekeeping, it is the main control you have.
Why it matters. Think of it as long-term prompting inside your thread. A reply you leave standing is a reply the AI reads as "this is what they want", and it becomes an example for everything after it. Over enough turns, that becomes the thread's tone. Adjusting messages is how you keep what you like and drop what you do not.
An example. Tell a kyn to speak only in caps and emojis for thirty messages. Delete the original instruction and it changes nothing — thirty examples of the behaviour are still sitting there, and the AI is still following them. Regenerate or edit those thirty and the tic goes with them.
Staying in control:
- Regenerate — a reply that missed, tried again.
- Edit — small corrections to tone, content or format, made directly.
- Delete — remove anything that would teach the AI the wrong lesson.
Used deliberately, these three tools let a thread grow in the direction you want instead of drifting wherever the last few replies happened to point.
Kyns Linked to This Thread
A thread does not have to hold one kyn. From chat settings → Context you can build a cast, and the tab is also where scenarios, behavioural mods and world files attach.
- Up to 7 additional kyns — 8 in a scene. On the current group system a lead kyn plus seven others share the room, each speaking in their own voice with their own agenda. A turn runs a director pass that decides who speaks and in what order, then each of them writes their part, and it all arrives as one reply. Classic rooms are the older shape and keep three additional kyns.
- Scenarios — a cast someone has already assembled, with the opening scene written. Browse them, hit Use scenario, and you are in.
- .dll files — behavioural mods that change how any kyn in the room acts. See DLL personas.
- .wrl files — world files that move the whole scene somewhere else. See WRL personas.
You can also pull a kyn in from the composer with an @kyn mention. Generation can be interrupted mid-reply if a turn is heading somewhere you did not want.
This feature requires a Premium Deluxe account.

Understanding Chat Profiles
A chat profile is who you are in the story. Not an account page — a roleplay identity: your name, gender, age, appearance, personality, whatever background you want a kyn to react to.
Why you would want more than one. Each profile carries its own relationships and its own history, because a thread is keyed to the profile you started it with. Be yourself in one, a medieval knight in another, someone unrecognisable in a third; none of them contaminate the others.
Managing them: go to My Collection → Chat Profiles. Mark one as default with Set Default and it is picked automatically for new chats. To check which one a conversation is running as, open Chat Settings (gear icon) → Profile; if that tab is missing, you have no default set.
Choosing one for a specific chat: the small people icon next to the Chat button lets you pick the profile before you start.
You cannot switch profiles mid-conversation. Changing identity halfway would break the continuity the kyn has been building on, so switching means starting a new thread. That is also why profiles cannot be edited once threads are running on them — see the section above.
Languages: pick the language in the profile and your kyn speaks it. The language switcher in the site header changes the interface only, never what your kyn speaks.
